Growing up in Long Branch, New Jersey- Tanya had always aspired to be someone more than what she could see in the streets. Discerning visually, addictions that had attached itself to the place where she first called home. Alike many diseases, these addictions were contagious. The place where she belonged…quickly became the deepest pit of fire. From seeing her mother be destroyed by alcoholism, to her close family and friends enslaved to heroin. It was at this time, by the age of 10, she began to stare monsters in their faces on a daily…and by the time she was 13, she became a transporter for the neighborhood drug dealers. You see…as a very young girl, she had seen and done it all…from regularly walking through houses with people slumped over, to being raped of her innocence and maidenhood. Tanya was living in the belly of the beast, which ultimately became her norm. Longing to belong in place significant so that she could feel safe…she constantly prayed to find her holy wall to climb over. While being unsheltered, Tanya was pushed into the fast lane and had been given a front seat view of many faces that had been robbed of their smiles. This was her heart-wrenching environment. However, through it all, it was not long before God greeted her with his presence. Not fully aware of his favor on her life…the lost little girl inside of her soon realized that she was no longer fatherless. She had been found by God, who had been there with me all along. As many seasons passed over, Tanya’s story blossomed like a rose through a concrete platform. By the age of 19, Tanya had enlisted into The United States Army and later became the Founder and CEO of See Me Shine Youth Program, INC. Her passion of being a youth advocate for education has always driven her. Residing in Columbus, OH for nearly 30 years now, she has trained extensively in mentorship within her current position as a formal/informal advisor to colleagues and peers. In 2012, Tanya graduated from Ohio Dominican University with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and, in that same year, was presented with the Federal Employee “Woman of the Year Award” for her outstanding community contributions and professional achievements. Since her attainments, her vigorous vision of educating young people has catalyzed her drive to help transform students’ lives. While being previously affiliated with the Federal Women’s Association and their Whitehall-Yearling High School EEO Mentoring Program, she led mentors on instructing student mentees on basic life lessons and social and emotional developmental needs. Presently joined hand-in-hand with her staff members, it is Tanya’s utmost desire to fulfill every student’s dream and positively change their lives forever.
